Kathy Smith, BS

Board Chair

For the past 18 years Kathy Smith has been an enthusiastic advocate and volunteer for TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation. She has served on TurningPoint’s BOD in various roles since 2012; however, 2025 will be her first time serving as Board Chair.

After graduating college (1977) Kathy returned home to Atlanta to begin a 15+ year career in business systems and technology. When her son started elementary school in 1995, Kathy retired from Corporate America. Never a homebody, it was not long before she started a ‘new’ career volunteering and working part-time for various non-profit organizations.

As a Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) alumna, Kathy began supporting the fight against breast cancer in 1992 when the Fraternity changed their national philanthropy focus to “breast cancer education and awareness”.  As a member of the ZTA North Fulton Link Alumnae Chapter, she helped organize an annual fundraiser, entitled The Pink Affair, to benefit local nonprofit organizations associated with breast cancer. In 2007, TurningPoint became one of these beneficiaries. The relationship between the alumnae chapter’s Pink Affair Committee and TurningPoint’s founder, Jill Binkley, quickly became a partnership of friendship and support. In 2013 the two organizations joined forces, and The Pink Affair officially became TurningPoint’s signature annual fundraiser. For 16 years Kathy proudly volunteered her time and talents taking on the role of The Pink Affair Event Chair, raising over $1.5 million to directly support TurningPoint’s complimentary services and financial assistance program.

Kathy enjoys living in Dawsonville on Lake Lanier.  Her favorite pastime is spending time with her son, Kevin, his wife Katie (the best daughter-in-law in the world) and their precious son Henry (the cutest grandson ever). Other pastime enjoyments include traveling, crafting, making quilts and watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the lake. Kathy holds a BS in Business Administration from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville
